2015 UPDATE

Hey Uni alum,

I'm currently living in Honolulu in a condo by the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor. My wife, Evelyn (who is a nurse at Queen's Medical Center), and I moved over here from Balboa Island almost seven years ago. It was a 40 year dream to live in Hawaii and after our kids were out of school we finally made the move.

After growing up in Westwood (going to Fairburn, Emerson and Uni), I headed to UCLA where I got an engineering degree and afterwards an MBA from USC (thus avoiding an early trip to Vietnam as an Infantry 2LT). I was in the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity while at UCLA. Also I lived in Tokyo, Japan, for a summer during college and speak a little bit of halting Japanese. On my way back from Japan in 1967, I stopped in Honolulu and fell in love with Hawaii. I vowed to move here eventually and we finally made the move in 2008. I probably came to Hawaii over 30 times from my first visit until our move and feel like a local.

I was pretty much a beach guy all my life and was a lifeguard and swimming instructor in Santa Monica while at UCLA. I've basically lived in beach communities from Marina del Rey, Playa del Rey, Manhattan Beach and Newport Beach for almost 40 years. I've loved water sports of all types and have been paddling on outrigger canoe teams for the last 18 years. Currently I paddle with Nappy Napolean and the Anuenue Canoe Club in Waikiki. I've done the 41-mile Molokai race with Nappy two times (he's completed his 55th straight crossing and is considered the most famous paddler in Hawaii). Also I like to motorcycle ride, sail catamarans and go on hikes around the island.

After college I went to work for an electric utility, Southern California Edison, and stayed with them 10 years, ultimately becoming the Contracts Manager at San Onofre nuclear power plant for my last 5 years with SCE. After that I went to work for Fluor Corporation in Irvine, CA, and was Contracts Manager for a Shell Oil project in Saudi Arabia that was being built in shipyards in Japan and then transported on roll-on roll-off vessels to Al Jubail. While there, I was in Japan frequently for about 2 years. Subsequently I became a Project Manger for Nissho Iwai (a Japanese trading company) and was responsible for selling steam turbine generators for electric power projects. After 16 years in engineering and construction, I made the move into a completely different field and formed a computer systems integration firm, Island Technologies. I've had my own company for the last 30 years that specializes in an area called document imaging and electronic content management. Now in Hawaii, I am still doing computer consulting and a bit of stock trading. Apple Macs are my preferred platform and I consult on all their products for small and large businesses.

My son, Mike, is living in Manila and is doing TV commercials and modeling. His sister, Lauren, just got her MBA at the University of Hawaii (UCLA undergrad) and is looking for a job in Hawaii.

Looking forward to seeing you at the 50th reunion in June.
